Ruth - Kinsman Redeemer

Questions:
  • In our sermon this week, Jay discussed the various rules associated with land ownership, as well as referenced what we discussed last week regarding the requirements surrounding the practice of gleaning (. While we may not need to replicate the society of covenant Israel, are there concepts that are underlying the practices that we can learn from? If so, what?
  • The Hebrew word, “Ga’al”, translated “redeemer/redemption”, meaning the release of people, animals, or property from bondage through the payment of a price.. Why do you think there were redeemer laws? (Lev.25:25-55)
  • Read Galatians 4:5-7. How does this passage present Christ as a kinsman-redeemer?
  • Discuss how Boaz is a type of Christ. What are some similarities?
  • Why is Christ a better redeemer than other kinsman redeemers presented in the Old Testament?
  • There is a “already but not yet” tension to our redemption as believers. What have we already been redeemed from? What will our ultimate redemption look like? What passages can you point to that support this idea?
