Revelation 2:8-11
To the Church in Smyrna
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.
“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’

Questions:
Doctrine - How we Think
- Should we pray against tribulation because it is from Satan or welcome it because it comes from the hand of God?
- How does Jesus eternality provide encouragement to those facing persecution?
Worship - How we Feel
- How does the fact that Jesus knows your pain and feels your pain help you persevere in times of trials and confusion?
- An aspect of maturity is being slow to respond to accusation-as our Jesus did. How does knowing that Christ, the Creator and Lord of the universe, approves of you help endure slander?
Application - What we Do
- Remember that “He Knows”
- Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
- How can this truth encourage you this week? How can you encourage others with this truth?
- Be faithful in the midst of persecution
- Most of us don’t compromise in our faith because we are afraid of being killed. We compromise for far less than that. In which areas of life do you think Christians most feel the pressure to compromise? How can we combat that?
